Large new warehouse and office building, timber construction meeting passive building standards – Logistics meet ecology, Schachinger Logistics Centre, Hörsching
Schachinger’s new Logistics Centre was inaugurated in 2013. The 10,000 m² timber construction building houses the central warehouse of Metro Österreich (Cash and Carry Wholesale) and a 3 storey office section. The Hall has specific climatic requirements 14-18° Celcius and 40-60% relative humity, in spite of a product turnover of around 400 tons per day.
This passive hall’s energy supply is ensured by a ground water heat pump and a PV-installation. Furthermore, the building’s entire indoor lighting system is composed of daylight- and demand-controlled LED lamps. Automatic blinds were also installed on the Windows. One of the building’s destinctive features is the outer fassade’s barcode-like appearance (barcodes are an essential part in the logistic process).
The building’s total cost (incuding planning, construction and shelving) amounted to 8,5 Million EUR. This is only 6% more than a standard building.
