BiogasAction – Vocational Education for Biogas Denmark

The Danish Biogas sector is a self-taught business, hence qualified and educated workforce is in short supply. During the 1990ties and after 2000, the business tried to form some kind of education within the business. This was never a success due to the lack of an organization that had the resources to pursue this task.
In 2015 DFFB was formed, due to the growing business as a consequence of a national agreement on biogas/Green Energy. DFFB was put in place to form a competence centre and to make sure
that the business had access to educated workforce. In 2016 DFFB as part of BiogasAction set up a network with educational institutions in order to make an education in the ordinary educational
system. The first education is to start from January 2018.

Aim of this activity

The aim of this activity is to ensure that in the future, employees will have the possibility to be educated within biogas. This is also to ensure, that the many new biogas plants established in recent years and in the coming years, will have access to an educated workforce in future.

How this Action could be Replicated

One of the main reasons, that this could happen so fast was that BiogasAction went into a dialog with an existing industrial education facilitator (Vocational educational institution). Together with this institution and with a couple of daily operators we identified an education close to what the plants wanted and then made it feasible for biogas plants. Focus was an easy way to make it feasible and that was through an education with an apprenticeship
